The Race Against Kids’ Cancer HPR Event Is Coming Up Fast!

Vintage Racing action for a good cause is coming to High Plains Raceway this weekend!

The automotive season is fully under way here in the Mile-High state, and such a season wouldn’t be complete without one of its longest running events: The Race Against Kid’s Cancer. Going on for what will be its 14th running this year, the RAKC is a highlight for anyone that loves road courses and classic racecars.

Put on in conjunction with the Morgan Adams Foundation and the Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing group, the Race Against Kid’s Cancer is more than a good excuse for drivers to get their cars out during a nice day in the summer. It’s also about fundraising to support kid’s pediatric cancer research. This is accomplished through multiple avenues, but arguably the funniest is the lunch rides available on Saturday and Sunday! And if that’s not enticing enough to get you down to HPR then I don’t know what is.

Speaking of Saturday and Sunday, it’s beyond time I tell you when this event is actually happening. Well it’s happening on the 3rd and 4th of August (or in two days at the time of this article). The racing starts at 8 AM and the lunch rides commence at 11:30 AM (on Saturday and Sunday).

The Cars This Event Usually Hosts:

Given this event is one of the biggest on the calendar for the Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing group, it basically goes without saying a myriad of vintage racecars will be present at the event. Broken up into various run groups, you have everything from Datsun 510s racing to first and second-gen Mustangs and even multiple open wheel classes as well! If you want to see variety in your vintage racing, it’s pretty hard to argue with this upcoming experience.

Cost Of Admission:

There is no cost of admission for members of the public who want to come and spectate! That’s right, $0 dollars. All you need to do is make the trek out to HPR, sign a small liability waiver at the gate, and you’re good to go!

Having said that, RAKC does also offer lunch rides with a selection of high performance cars to the public as well. These are not free but only require a small donation to the Morgan Adams Foundation to secure your ride. In 2023 one of the available rides was a modified (see: Frightening) Shelby Cobra, so I’d say it’s definitely worth bringing some extra cash along just in case one of the cars takes your fancy.

Location Of The Event:

Like every year, the Race Against Kid’s Cancer is held at the crown of the Colorado’s road course roster: High Plains Raceway. Specifically located at 93301 East US Highway 36, Deer Trail, CO 80105 in Byers, Colorado, it’s bit of a hike but worth it to see performance cars in their natural habitat. Even more worth it to experience them in said habitat as well!

Enjoy!
