VW Arteon: First Impressions.

During my time at the 2018 Denver Auto Show, I got to sit in a few cars and record my thoughts of them. Coming up very shortly is my first impressions of the new Volkswagen Arteon.

Disclaimer: This is the written version of my recorded thoughts (as the voice recorder I use didn’t just have the MP3 file). More “first impressions” will be coming and will be written out. Moving onto my thoughts on the 2018 VW Arteon…

  • It has a really big trunk.

(VW don’t/doesn’t have a trunk image of the Arteon).

You might be surprised just how big the trunk of the Arteon is. Me and my sister could probably fit in there with room for a third (smaller) person. Neither of us are abnormally tall but that’s no small feat. This seems to be a theme with VW. The Passat I looked at awhile ago (when we were getting our now not-so-new Tiguan) hard a similarly large trunk and so did the Jetta. Speaking of the Jetta, the new Jetta (the one on the MQB platform) is impressive as well. VW seems to have trunk space down… for the time being anyway, things can and may change in the future.

  •  The fake exhaust tips look cheap.

“Looks are subjective.” A phrase that I’ve come to live by This instance is no different. Subjectively, the exhaust tips look cheaper than a rip-off of popular movies… Okay, maybe I’m being a little harsh. Nevertheless, they’re not very flattering. I didn’t get a chance to look if the Arteon has quad exhaust tips. However, I did see the left-side. And the left-side had dual-tips. Assuming the right side also had dual-tips, then the Arteon has fake twin exhaust tips hiding the quad-tips that aren’t fake. On an R-Line model, having exposed; genuine, exhaust tips make sense… but what would’ve been so hard about having normal, good looking non-counterfeit exhaust tips for the rest of the range? I don’t mean this in a rude manner either, I’d actually like to know.

  • The top of the dash has hard plastics.

Once again, I don’t quite remember the trim-level of the Arteon model I was in. What I do remember is how the top of the dash and the top of the window sill was made of a hard plastic.  Even portions of the lower console had the same plastic. Not something that was a deal-breaker, as the interior design as a whole is very nice. It is something you may or may not notice, however. With that being said, the interior design (as I briefly mentioned) is one I quite enjoyed. It’s a little simple but tastefully done to me.

  • The roof height is surprisingly low.

The pictures don’t do any justice to just how low the roof-height is. I’m not exceptionally tall, about 5’4″. Yet the roof was about mid-way to my torso. Perhaps I didn’t know what to expect, but it certainly wasn’t that. The car itself? I find it pretty handsome. Better than the CC in my eyes.
