ViperDex Update 2: Gen 3 Year-By-Year Changes!

Plus a small discussion on how updates/changes will be made to the ‘Dex going forward…

Hey everyone! Been… yikes…an embarrassingly long time since the last update, huh? While I planned to step back from the ‘Dex to work on other projects after the first update, I didn’t intend to be away for so long. You can thank/blame my then-new part time job and pursuit of my first car not long after for that. Regardless, some level of balance has returned to my life, which means work on the ViperDex can continue.

With that said, before I dive into what’s been updated on the Dex today, I need to discuss something else first: How updates will look going forward. Normally my preferred MO for anything I do is to completely finish it before breaking the news. Whether it be the ViperDex or products or videos or articles or what have you, that’s been the way I do things for as long as I can remember. However, I realize that with this avenue in particular, that may not be the smartest course of action. There’s a lot of research that goes into each update for the ViperDex and that research takes time. Even more so when such information is hard to come by, and furthermore time is needed when I have to corroborate sources. Long story short, there’s just too much time between when I start a new section and when it actually gets published for you all to see. So, going forward, I will be posting whatever new section I have publicly with whatever information there currently is on the page.

More often than not, this will mean the page is gonna look quite empty. However, when updates are rolled out, I will of course make posts like this one stating what’s been added. There’s also a small line of text on the homepage of the VD expressing those very same changes, so it shouldn’t be easy to miss any evolutionary step of the ‘Dex. Hopefully you all will bear with me as I grow the ‘Dex, and even reach out if some information is wrong or if you some insight on a given subject! For the topic I’m about to talk about especially, some owner insight would be greatly appreciated…

So what’s been added this time: Gen 3 Year By Year Changes!

Steven Ferguson once told me he wanted to see yearly changes added to the ViperDex, so here I am –partially and belatedly– fulfilling that request. While the plan was to start with the Gen 2, the VCA’s Viper Registry already has a complete section about this for Gen 1 and 2. Additionally, their Gen 3 section is pretty empty, and no other Viper repository I’ve visited have yearly changes for Vipers past Gen 2, so it only made sense to start with the Gen 3. There’s also the fact Gen 3s seem to be the least (openly) documented of all the generations mechanically, so there’s definitely a gap that I can fill here.

Or at least, begin to fill. As you’ll see when you visit the page, there isn’t exactly a wealth of information currently being displayed. Remember what I was saying about knowledge being hard to come by? This is what I was referring to. Year-by-year change info for the Gen 3 is staggeringly scarce, so what you see at the time of this post is all I was able to find on such short notice. No matter though, I’ll continue to scour the internet as I always do to find the rest!

That has been your ViperDex Update 2 though, see you all next time.
