This Viper Is Not a Corvette Copy – It’s The Other Way Around
Just a short note about a chronological inaccuracy regarding the two American sports cars.
How many of you have seen someone say “the Gen 3-4 Viper looks too much like a C6 Corvette”? I’ve seen this comment a handful of times myself (the most recent time was while reading a Club Lexus forum) and only recently did I realize that it should be the other way around. Let me explain why…
The Gen 3 Dodge Viper came out in 2003, 2 years before Chevrolet would unveil the C6 Corvette in 2005. Now, when Chevrolet and Dodge began designing their two sports cars is not easy to tell (Wikipedia would have you believe Chevrolet began designing the C6 Corvette in 2001 but both sources are sketchy at best) but what I can say for certain is that Dodge definitely didn’t copy (or have inspiration from) the Corvette given that it came out first. With that said, if you think the similarities (regardless of when the two came out) are still too close then that’s entirely up to, but let history show that Dodge came out with their design before Chevrolet did.
And… that’s it. I know, this is a criminally short post, but I did say there wasn’t much to talk about here. I promise longer (and more in-depth) articles will be coming out in the future. Until then though, I’ll see you all next time!
